May, 2023.- Society is currently facing political and cultural scenarios that are changing rapidly, causing the reading of reality to oscillate between hope and uncertainty.
In our country, the political, electoral and social processes seem to have given no respite since 18-O, to which is added the proliferation of disinformation campaigns, hate speech and denialism. Where the media used to be as references to try to better understand reality, today we find social networks, platforms that can amplify truthful information or be expeditious channels for false news and disinformation.
In this scenario, it is worth asking what is the role that communicators should assume in their most diverse functions, journalists from public or private institutions, in foundations or organizations of a different nature or professionals who work in outreach areas, among others, delving into what are the ways to accompany society in an open, respectful and responsible look at the phenomena that occur every day.
To address this problem, from the Millennium Institute for Research on Violence and Democracy, VioDemos, the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data and the Center for Justice and Society Studies, convene the Communication and Human Rights Meeting, on Thursday, June 8 between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 pm in the Mide UC Auditorium on the San Joaquín Campus.
The conference will address issues such as the importance of communicating with a human rights approach, what are the challenges that this poses; why communicators should integrate respect for human rights in their content and what are the axes of responsible and respectful communication.
The Communication and Human Rights Meeting will be divided into two blocks. In the first, there will be a presentation of the Portable Communication and Human Rights Manual of the National Institute of Human Rights, by Daniela Fernández, a journalist from the Promotion, Education and Participation Unit of the same institution.
In the second block, the Dialogue “Why communicate with a human rights approach?” will be held. and in it will participate:
