The Emblematic Project 1: Social Data, is a line of research that integrates the work done by researchers and students of Political Science, Statistics and Computing Science.
It looks to foster the combination of diverse methodological techniques based on data analytics, as well and with the production and integration of data generated automatically or experimentally. All of these, with the goal of developing novel diagnoses approaches and to apply them into the most relevant socio-political issues.
With its research work, this Emblematic Project seeks to make a contribution, first, in the field of data representativeness, through the development of data-baseds methodologies that allow us to better understand the socio-political realities in different communities. Second, it also looks to make a contribution in the area of data transparency, through a rigurous interpretation of models in a social context.

Plataforma Telar
Plataforma Telar is an interdisciplinary project that was born in the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data, to later expand and grow, achieving collaborative research alliances with several institutions and organizations. Some examples of this are the collaaborations with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP Chile), the Council for Transparency and Nuestra Voz (Hay Mujeres), among many others. Plataforma Telar focuses on the study of the Constitutional Convention in Chile of 2021-2022, with an interdisciplinary approach that combines research approaches from political science, computing, statistics, and communications. The project is developed within a framework that seeks to combine and triangulate information obtained from different sources and through various instruments, from classical data analysis techniques to in-depth ethnographic explorations in specific territorial contexts.
Through Plataforma Telar it has been possible to study information and misinformation phenomena, the impact of parity on institutional bodies (the same convention), measure opinion and emotions on social networks, the assessment of media coverage, among many other fronts. Although Plataforma Telar, as an analysis of a relevant socio-political moment for the country, culminated in 2022 with the plebiscite to exit that process, we have continued to investigate in different areas. One of these is data publishing, where we hope to fully publish not only the data, but also the learned metadata that we use to produce some of our machine learning results.
