IMFD researcher joins the USS School of Engineering
As a way to enhance this area, USS incorporated Leopoldo Bertossi, senior researcher at the Millennium Institute Foundational Research on Data, who arrived in July 2024 after his experience as Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at Carleton University. Bertossi, who holds a PhD in Mathematics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), is also a member of the executive board of the Data Observatory Foundation in Chile.

His career has been marked by deep research in key areas such as computational logic, knowledge representation, data management and machine learning, being a world reference in the management of inconsistencies in databases.
The Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Design has significantly strengthened the research area in cutting-edge topics of Data Science such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning, integrating internationally recognized academics and researchers who provide a solid base in scientific research, innovation and technological development.
Felisa Córdova, national research director of FIAD, indicated that USS promotes interdisciplinary research with a positive impact on key areas of technological development: "The incorporation of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and data science allows our professors to apply innovative models to solve complex problems in sectors such as industry, biology, mining and transportation, among others".
With these advances and a highly experienced interdisciplinary team, the USS School of Engineering, Architecture and Design is consolidating its position as a key player in applied research, contributing to solutions that address the technological, environmental and social challenges of the present and future.
