May, 2023.- The 15th Alberto Mendelzon International Workshop on Foundations of Data Management (AMW) took place in late May at the Department of Computer Science, University of Chile, and attracted the participation of around 60 individuals, including speakers, academics, and undergraduate and graduate students, all interested in the field of data management.
Renzo Angles, the general organizer of the event, IMFD researcher, and faculty member at the Department of Computer Science, University of Talca, highlighted that “the workshop was a success, as we had a good number of attendees, including individuals from Germany, Argentina, Austria, Chile, the United States, Israel, Italy, Paraguay, Peru, Sweden, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Following the spirit of AMW, the activities took place in a pleasant environment conducive to teaching and learning.”
During the first two days of the event, the AMW Summer School took place, featuring four tutorials. On the third and fourth days, there were four invited talks, and 18 scientific papers were presented. On the final day, a panel discussion was held, where four experts discussed the significance of data in today’s society, with a particular focus on ethical considerations related to its use in artificial intelligence tools.
Since 2006, AMW has brought together the best researchers from around the world, providing an opportunity to discuss and disseminate research outcomes in the areas of Data Management and the Web. Meanwhile, the AMW Summer School offers an opportunity for interaction among Latin American students (both graduate and undergraduate), researchers, and professionals with leading researchers from around the world, promoting collaboration, learning, and teaching in a friendly environment.
